Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor)
Born and raised in Vienna, Austria, Martin studied Molecular Biology as well as Linguistics at the University of Vienna. After a PhD at the IMP Vienna (Advisor: Dr. Carrie Cowan), a Post-doc at the Weizmann Institute in Israel (Advisors: Prof. Eran Segal and Prof. Yitzhak Pilpel) and short research projects in Switzerland and Japan, he joined the University of Haifa as a faculty member and opened his lab in November 2020.
Throughout his scientific career he has been intrigued by the many ways in which gene expression can be regulated, qualitatively and quantitatively, temporally and spatially. Employing both systems-level and targeted approaches in primary neurons, human cell lines and C. elegans, he has been investigating gene regulation from diverse angles, covering both its functional role in the cell as well as its mechanistic implementation.
